No. EPS is a non-structural material used as an alternative to more traditionally fabricated items. Foam shapes are becoming more and more popular as a means of providing architectural enhancements that would not otherwise be economical.

No. There are no CFC’s or HCFC’s used in the production or contained in the final product. Recent laws prohibiting the use of products containing CFC/HCFC’s make EPS the insulation product of the future.

No. The National Bureau of standards combustion test collected data from seven laboratories concluding that under the worst-case fire scenario, EPS is considered to be no more toxic than wood. (Douglas Fir).

No. Water absorption is low. The non-interconnecting cell structure prevents capillary absorption into the interior of a molded board. Testing by the State of Minnesota in foundation wall insulation found 7-year-old EPS with .13% moisture. The structural research study took samples of roofs ranging in age from 6 to 15 years old. Moisture content was found to be very low-a maximum of .04% by volume.

Yes, EPS is recyclable and is being collected at over 100 locations in the United States today.
